Presidents Message

It is very important to sustaining the club to have participation from the members. There are committees that need chair persons, events that need people to do everything from setting up for the event , to cooking and cleaning up after the event. I realize we are all busy in our private lives, and many of us have families and outside obligations to attend to. The club is not asking for a full time commitment, but if you can give eight hours a year to the club to help with one event, it will help out more than you would believe. Think about it the next time a call for volunteers is made, do you have eight hours to give to the club that gives back so much?

Letter from the Editor

Thank you to the members that continue to contribute to the newsletter. If you have something that you would like to have printed in the newsletter, please submit it to HYPERLINK "mailto:lfgnewsletter@comcast.net" lfgnewsletter@comcast.net or leave it in the mail slot in the club office. The newsletter is always accepting ads from members and local businesses that are interested in reaching our membership. The cost of the ads is very reasonable and the distribution of the newsletter is over 300 homes quarterly. If you have a business or trade that you would like to make known, please see Bobbie. There will be four newsletters this year: February 1, 2008 May 1, 2008 August 1, 2008 November 1, 2008 All articles to be included must be received by the editor not less than two weeks prior to publication.

What’s Happening at the Club

It has been busy at the club since the last newsletter went out. Elections have been held and new officers have been elected. The Treasurer took 10k from the checking account and opened a Money Market account with it, leaving 9k in the checking and earning some interest on the rest. A new committee has been created to better handle special events such as the Annual Shrimp Feed and Fish Rodeos. Rich Shawver will be chairing the committee and as with every other committee, he will be looking for assistance with the events. The lock at the gate has a new key effective January 1st. If you still have the key with the number 2 on it, you will not be able to open the gate. Come to the meeting and see Bobbie or Scott Zeck to exchange your old key for the new one. Keys will not be mailed. The club has a new website. http://www.littlestownfandg.org If you have access to the web, take some time to look it up. I think you will be pleasantly surprised. If you have ideas or suggestions of something you would like to see on the page, see Hal Heagy. He is working with the webmaster on content and presentation. Santa made a visit to the Littlestown Fish and Game to get the wish lists from a few of the children. It looks like everyone had a good time.

Website

Hal Heagy 443.324.5637
The club has a new website. The new address is www.littlestownfandg.org Take a few minutes and check it out. There are a lot of nice features and pictures.

Rentals

Furman Lippy 717.359.7736
Renting the club house is the best deal in town. Your cost is $35.00 for the day, with a $50.00 deposit left for cleaning. If you leave the building in the condition you found it in, you get back the $50.00 deposit check. If you would like a DJ, Carl Strine has offered to members to bring his equipment and DJ for $25.00. Where can you rent a place for a gathering for a total of $60.00????? Let’s see if we can keep the place booked and bring in some additional funds to the club.

Special Events

Rich Shawver 410.375.4337
Rich has volunteered to chair the Special Events committee. This committee will not be personally running every event, his responsibility will be to make sure that the events have enough people working on them and that all of the details to making each event successful are being covered. Some of the events that will fall under the category of Special Events are the Pheasant Hunt, Flea Market and Shrimp Feed. As you can see, he will have his hands full. He will be looking for volunteers to work on events, if he asks for your help, try to say yes. He is working very hard in this new role.

Federation

Ken Kershaw 717.633-0283
There are a couple of bills coming up in the House concerning altered weapons. This is a weapon that has had the serial number changed. The first bill is to change this from a misdemeanor to a felony and is written as if you have the weapon, you altered the number. The second bill concerning this is to say it must be proved you altered the number. The Senate is trying to increase the minimum sentence for having a concealed pistol w/o a license to one year.

Block Shoots

Paul Lurk 717.359.9600
The Block Shoots have begun a new season and so far have been successful. Sign up begins at 5:30pm and shooting begins around 7;00pm. There are many prizes to be won and some healthy competition. Come on out on Monday evening and join in the fun.

Membership

Bobbie Zeck 717.465.1101
Membership is very active right now. This time of year is very busy with renewals. The club is still offering the five dollar club card for bringing in new members. The card is good on everything in the club except renewal of membership.

Building and Grounds

Rob Hockensmith 410.346.6223
The good weather allowed for a work day to be held in January, which was very well attended and productive. The pistol range was repaired, trash and tree limbs picked up around the grounds and some general maintenance was done. Check out the pictures on the website.

Shooting Range

Pat Donohue 717.359.8076
Please use the proper range for the discipline you are shooting. Do not pattern shotguns on the pistol range. Please remove your trash, targets and debris when you leave. Be considerate of your fellow members. If you bring your children to the range, please watch them closely. Some of the members have brought to the attention of the officers seeing some very unsafe conditions regarding children being unsupervised on the ranges. Please make them aware of the safety issues and proper range etiquette.

Public Relations

Bobbie Zeck 717.465.1101
Advertising the Fish and Game has become very important to growing the membership and increasing participation in events. Members will be seeing advertisements popping up all over the place. There are ads running on the Community Bulletin Board – Channel 10 in the Littlestown area for the Block Shoots and one ran for the New Years Day Shoot. There is advertising in the Merchandiser, Carroll County Times and on the placemats at Dutterers Restaurant. You never know where you will see the Fish and Game next.

Trap Shooting

Ken Kime 717.334.6832
Trap is running twelve to thirteen squads weekly and everyone is having a good time. Come on down and join in the fun

The schedule for safety courses is not set as of this newsletter. Look for more information in the next edition.

Archery

This could be you
I am sad to announce that the archery committee is without a chairman. Gary can not continue in this role, he has offered to assist where he can, but can not be the chair person. If you would be interested in taking the lead on this committee, please see Walt. It is important to the club that the archery committee continue to grow. We made some big steps last year with archery and it would be a shame to loose ground.

It’s All About the Kids

Joe Webb 717.359.0821
The future of the sport lies in the hands of the youth of today. Help them learn about the sport you enjoy. Joe Webb will be providing more information on how he hopes to get more youth involvement in the sport.

Kitchen

Carl Strine 717.633.7075
The kitchen is open on Monday evenings for the Block / Trap shoots. As always, Carl has a nice menu to choose from and weekly specials that will fill you up and leave you with money to spend on the Gun and 13 Jars. If you are looking for a way to earn your work hours with the club, see Carl for a couple of Monday nights in the kitchen. He can use the help.

Pheasant Hunt

Flea Market

The Littlestown Fish and Game will be hosting a Flea Market May 10th 9:00am to 4:00pm. Rich Shawver is handling this and the tables will be rented at $10.00 for inside the clubhouse and $5.00 for outside. There is a limit of 22 tables on the inside, so if you really want to be indoors, make sure you see Rich soon and get your spot. The admittance to the sale for buyers is going to be $3.00 per car. Remember, one man’s trash is another man’s treasure.
Picture sent by Dave Kear of Hunting trip he took to Colorado in August 2007. The picture was taken from car above Snowmass Village, near Aspen.

Cell Phones for Cash
